French Courses for the Canadian Public Service
Collège Éducacentre offers customized French courses tailored to the linguistic needs and objectives of Canadian federal government employees.
Description
As part of their duties, federal government employees must be able to understand, speak, and communicate in both of Canada’s official languages.
For over thirty years, Collège Éducacentre has been a leading provider of French language training and exam preparation for the Canadian federal employees.
The French courses offered by Collège Éducacentre enable public servants to acquire, develop, and maintain their language skills in formal and informal work situations, both written and oral.
Our training program for public service employees includes:
- An assessment of French language needs and proficiency level with an Learning Advisor
- A customized course plan tailored to individual needs and constraints: individual or group; full-time or part-time; online or in-person
- Personalized support provided by highly qualified instructors with proven and extensive experience using the tools and programs developed by the Canada School of Public Service
Training offered
Our courses are designed for Canadian public service employees who wish to:
- learn French in direct connection with their position and work;
- prepare for or requalify for the Public Service Commission’s French as Second Language (FSL) exams;
- maintain their skills and develop their proficiency.
They are specifically designed to:
- strengthen language skills in a government professional context;
- develop oral fluency and written accuracy;
- become familiar with the format and requirements of official language tests;
- achieve or maintain the level required for career advancement.
Acquisition – Levels A, B, C
This course focuses on the progressive development of French as a second language (FSL) skills in order to reach language levels A, B, or C. of the Public Service Commission.
Based on the PFL2 (Programme de Français Langue Seconde – French as a Second Language Program), the training emphasizes written comprehension and expression, as well as oral interaction in a government professional context. We incorporate activities, exercises, and materials specifically developed by Collège Éducacentre to meet the needs and expectations of our student community. This training enables participants to build a solid foundation or progress toward the language level required for their professional goals.
Preparation for the Public Service Exams
This targeted training specifically prepares participants for the Public Service Commission’s reading comprehension test, written expression test and oral interaction exam.
Participants practice using the exams format, develop effective response strategies, and improve their fluency, linguistic accuracy, and oral confidence through realistic scenarios and exam simulations.
Maintaining Proficiency
This course is intended for employees who have already achieved a language level A, B, or C and wish to maintain their French proficiency.
The training helps consolidate existing skills, maintain oral and written fluency, and prevent a decline in proficiency by drawing on common professional communication situations within the public service.
Public Service Commission Exam Familiarization Session
This session aims to demystify the Public Service Commission’s second language exams.
It presents the structure of the assessments, performance criteria, question types, and expectations for each skill (reading comprehension, written expression, oral interaction), helping to reduce stress for candidates and promote better preparation.
Grammar and Vocabulary Workshops
These workshops are designed to consolidate and update grammar skills. They are intended for individuals who already have a good command of the language and wish to review key concepts. A level B, as recognized by the Public Service Commission, or an equivalent level (core program, immersion program, native speaker, etc.) is required to participate. This prerequisite is essential, as the workshops focus on reviewing and reinforcing existing knowledge, rather than on learning the basics.
The training is delivered online and includes 10 or 12 weekly one-hour sessions, offered via Zoom or MS Teams. Each week, participants receive an email containing learning materials (reference charts, exercises, and activities) to help them prepare for the upcoming session.
Assessment is conducted through a written exam.
